Memorial Day Weekend brought a lot of drama ranging from Pusha T's Beef with Drake, Kim Kardashian feuding with Kanye West's former business partner. In the heat of all the beef amongst other things going on it may have been easy to overlook that J. Cole released an hour-long Interview with 17-Year-Old "Gucci Gang" rapper Lil Pump.
Pump and Cole have been the center of conversation for the past couple of months as the internet concluded that the two were beefing after Cole released his latest album "KOD" which featured a track "1985" seemingly coming for the younger rappers of this generation. The track had even garnished a response from Pump's friend and fellow rapper Smokepurpp who's fans started a "F*** J. Cole" chant at a concert last month. Cole fans reciprocated that energy starting a "F*** Lil Pump" chant at one of his concerts, in which he quickly put a stop to it saying "Nah, don't do that...Don't say that."
While many not think that the two rappers have anything in common both coming from different times in music and making very different types of music, they actually have a lot in common. In the hour-long conversation, the two discuss how they both came up in the rap game. Pump revealed that he has only really been rapping for two years with the help of his best friend Smokepurpp. Cole also shared his story of how when he found out that Tupac Shakur died it motivated him to start spitting at the age of 11.
Something that the two had bonded over was their conversation about their stepfathers. Both having not pleasant experiences with them growing up shared their stories. Pump revealed that he once even pulled out a gun on his stepfather because at the time his stepfather was upset about him making the house smell like marijuana. Cole going off his experiences talked about how he felt that if he grew up in a more stable household he may not have gotten into some of the things that he got in and said the same for Pump. Pump went off of that saying that if he didn't go through some of the stuff with his family he may not have gotten where he is now (a Platinum selling artist at only 17).
This is the second sit-down conversation With Cole that has been released in the past couple weeks as Angie Martinez had also sat down with the Rapper to discuss the current state of rap, Kanye West, who "Kill Edward" is + more. Check out their conversation below.
