Police Respond When Dog Crashes Car Into Wisconsin Art Gallery

Police officers found an unlikely driver behind the wheel of a car that had crashed into a Wisconsin art museum.

It was a dog.

When Sturgeon Bay Police officers got to the scene, the owner of the car said Callie, his 5-year-old Australian shepherd, was at fault for the accident. It happened when he left his car parked at a gas station and crossed the street to Sunflower Bakery. When he exited the bakery to return to his car, he found Callie had shifted the car out of park and rolled it into Pearl of Door County, United Press International reported Tuesday (March 16).

No injures were reported, but Callie won’t be allowed to take the car for a spin anymore, UPI added.

The Pearl of Door County, which has shown to be a good sport about Callie's accident, posted about the unusual experience on Facebook:

“It's not every day that a dog drives a Jeep across traffic and right in to your business! ...a lil shook but saved by a big chunk of smokey quartz! Thankfully no one was injured.”

The art gallery added in a post on Wednesday (March 17):

“And then the lights fell off the ceiling! Certainly ‘CALLIE CRASH’ related and a delayed effect. Thankfully all merchandise and art had been moved from the gallery floor for a dance class the night before and we were closed. Whew! Angels watching over us again.”

“With bad cellular service, I said ‘wait a minute, I think you said a dog drove into the building,’” Tony Scimeca, the building’s manager, recalled to Action 2 News. “And she said ‘no, you heard it right.’ So, a thousand jokes happen, like ‘boy is his rates going up’ or ‘did he have any prior convictions.’”

Callie’s owner told the station that he’s “very happy no one was hurt and there was very little damage as a result of the incident,” on March 13.
