Flags At State Capitol & Elsewhere Lowered In Honor Of Former Mayor

Some South Florida residents and others in Tallahassee may notice flags flying at half-staff today.

Former Boca Raton Mayor Susan Whelchel passed away last week and Governor DeSantis has ordered U.S. and State of Florida flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Thursday at the State Capitol, the Palm Beach County Courthouse in West Palm beach and at Boca Raton City Hall.

Whelchel lived in Boca Raton for more than forty years and served as the city's mayor from 2008 to 2014.

She died on Friday at the age of 77 after battling Alzheimer's Disease.
