New York Houses Left Dangling On The Edge Of A Cliff Following Landslide

Several homes in upstate New York were left dangling precariously close to the edge of a cliff after a landslide left a giant crater in the ground. Luckily, nobody was injured as a result of the landslide, and none of the homes were totally destroyed.

Officials sent a drone to investigate the area and found that the ground was still moving.

"The use of a drone for this purpose allowed all responders to maintain a safe distance from the collapse and examine the area above and below the slide without anyone having to physically enter the slide area," the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook.

Initially, authorities evacuated people from seven homes in the area, but after assessing the situation, they allowed residents of four of the houses to return home.

Authorities have not determined what caused the landslide, but according to the Albany Heraldthe area used to be a gravel pit.

Engineers said that they will monitor the area for the next week. They said the ground is still unstable and have placed stakes in the ground to determine how fast it is moving.
