Truck Plows Through New York City Pedestrians In "Cowardly Act Of Terror"

Over a dozen people were injured and at least eight people were killed in a "cowardly act of terror" in New York City on Tuesday (October 31) afternoon. A truck plowed over pedestrians on a bike path a few blocks north of the National September 11 Memorial in downtown New York City.

A rental truck from Home Depot deliberately turned the wrong way down the bike path running over pedestrians and bikers leaving a trail of destruction for around ten blocks. The truck collided with a school bus and the driver got out of the truck brandishing two imitation firearms while screaming"Allahu Akbar."

The 29-year-old suspect, who had a Florida ID, was shot in the abdomen by police before being apprehended and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police recovered one paintball gun and one BB gun. WNBC is citing law enforcement sources that say a note found in the truck said the he carried out the attack for ISIS.

The attacker has been identified as Sayfullo Saipov, an Uzbek national who entered the U.S. in 2010.  He's believed to be a lawful permanent resident with a green card and lived in Tampa. He rented the truck earlier in the day at a Home Depot in New Jersey.

President Trump says his thoughts and prayers are with the victims the terrorist attack  In a White House statement, the President pledged his administration's full support to the New York City Police Department. Trump thanked the first responders who stopped the suspect and rendered aid to the victims of what he called a "cowardly attack."  He said those responders embody the "true American spirit of resilience and courage."

Earlier, the President wrote on Twitter, "Looks like another attack by a very sick and deranged person. Law enforcement is following this closely. NOT IN THE USA!" In a second tweet he wrote, "We must not allow ISIS to return, or enter, our country after defeating them in the Middle East and elsewhere. Enough!"

The First Lady also tweeted her heart is breaking for New York City and offered thoughts and prayers.
