New Orleans Woman Throws 'Birthday Party' For Neighborhood Construction

Constructions sites can sometimes be a sight for sore eyes, especially if they seem to last forever. But what would you do if crews have been working on the same street for a full year? A woman in New Orleans decided to poke some fun at the construction along her street that has been going on for the last year by throwing a "birthday party."

Natalie Harvey channeled her frustration over the continued construction in her neighborhood into a more creative outlet, decorating a cake to mirror the scene she is now all too familiar with, WWL-TV reports.

"Happy first birthday to our street construction! It was one year ago this week when they first began to rip up our street," Harvey wrote in a post on Facebook Tuesday (March 16). "To celebrate, I created a replica of the street scene in cake form."

According to her post, the Lakeview-area street is partially obstructed and halfway impassable. A new development even appeared last week in the form of a 6-foot-deep hole in the street. Rather than get angry, she got baking.

"It just makes everyone laugh a little bit which we all need right now," she told WWL-TV. "I saw my neighbor post on one of our neighborhood Facebook pages that the year anniversary was coming up so I thought, well, I make birthday cakes for my kids, I make birthday cakes for my husband and me, so why not make a birthday cake for our street construction?"

The city said the pandemic, weather, and other reasons have factored in to why the project has gone on so long, the news outlet reports, but it hopes to clear up the construction soon.
