YouTube Users Reporting Videos Aren't Playing

UPDATE: YouTube has fixed the issue causing playback issues for users around the world. At 9:13 p.m. ET, TeamYouTube announced the issue had been resolved on Twitter.

"...And we're back – we're so sorry for the interruption. This is fixed across all devices & YouTube services, thanks for being patient with us," they tweeted.

They did not say what caused the outage.

YouTube users around the world are having issues playing videos. The site loads fine, but users are greeted with an error when they try to play a video. According to Down Detector, the issue started occurring around 3:45 p.m. ET.

Some users reported that the thumbnails were loading, but when they clicked to play the video, it would just display a spinning wheel. Other users were given an error message and asked to refresh the page to try again.

YouTube said they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

"If you're having trouble watching videos on YouTube right now, you're not alone -- our team is aware of the issue and working on a fix," TeamYouTube wrote on Twitter. "We'll follow up here with any updates."
