FedEx Driver Jumps Into River To Save Woman Who Crashed Her Car

A FedEx driver is being recognized for his heroic efforts in saving a woman who crashed her car into a river.

On Monday, March 8, Brandon Alt was starting his delivery route when he noticed the car ahead of him starting weaving, reports ABC30.

He then watched the vehicle go off the road and plunge into the Truckee River.

Alt immediately pulled over and saw that her car was quickly sinking under the water.

He jumped into the freezing water and was able to pull the woman out of the car.

"I tried the back door handle and I pulled on it," Alt said in an interview with CNN. "I thought it was locked at first but I think it was the current of the water keeping it closed."

Eventually, the woman was able to get out of the car and Alt helped her back onto dry land.

"I would just hope and expect anybody in that situation to do the same," Alt told ABC30.

Authorities say it's unclear how long the woman would have been trapped in her sinking car if Alt had not quickly gone to her aid.

"You have to be a person that wants to help people, and obviously, that FedEx driver was one of those people," said CHP Officer Seth Jennings. "It was a heroic action that he took."
