AZ Man Arrested, Asked To Go Back To Prison 'To Eat A Bologna Sandwich'

A Mesa man was arrested on Tuesday for threatening a gas station clerk with a knife, reported AZ Family.

Mesa Police said that officers responded to a call at the Chevron gas station near Broadway Road and Val Vista Drive at around 5:30 a.m. The police received calls about a man with a knife.

When officer made it to the store, the clerk told them that a man walked up to him while he was changing the trash can liners outside. The man pulled out a large butcher knife and ran at him "as if he were going to stab him." According to the clerk, the man was allegedly yelling, "I told you I would be back to kill you!" The clerk was able to run away.

The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Eric Van Tine.

Officers saw surveillance video fo the incident, which shows Tine removing the knife from his waistband before running at the clerk.

After a search of the area, officers found tine at 34th and Broadway Road. The clerk was brought to the scene to identify Tine as the man that pulled the knife on him.

During Tine's arrest, he told officers that he was angry with the clerk because he had previously accused him of shoplifting at the store.

Tine refused to tell police where he put the knife, but he told them that he just wants to go back to prison and eat a bologna sandwich.

Tine was booked into jail on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
