Aly & AJ Drop Explicit Version Of 'Potential Breakup Song': Listen

Aly & AJ released a grown-up version of their smash hit song!

It’s been 13 years since the pop star duo — and real-life sisters Aly and AJ Michalka — unveiled their 2007 anthem “Potential Breakup Song.” On Tuesday (December 29), the singers, ages 31 and 29, returned with a newly-revamped rendition of the track, now updated with lyrics for adult ears.

The re-recorded offering features fiery verses from both sisters, including AJ’s iconic opening line where she slams her no-good boyfriend for forgetting her “f—kin’ birthday.”

Carrying the same sassy, fed-up tone, Aly sings, “We got along, we got along, we got along/ Until you did that/ Now all I want is just my stuff back/ Do you get that?/ Let me repeat that/ I want my s—t back.”

Longtime fans are loving the all-grown-up interpretation of the record.

“Thank you for this beautiful gift I love it thank you ladies you rock as always,” one user tweeted.

Someone else added, “I'VE NEVER WANTED ANYTHING MORE IN MY LIFE.”

As fans know, the duo dropped the record during their days being affiliated with The Disney Channel. The song appeared on their sophomore studio album, Insomniatic, which peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 at the time of its release. The LP also featured the fan-favorite track “Like Whoa.”

In August 2020, Aly & Aj reflected on the original version of “Potential Breakup Song,” with Aly telling E! Online, “We like the song. I think that we’re proud of it. But I would produce that song a lot differently now when I think about it.”
