Lynn Shelton, 'Little Fires Everywhere' Director, Dead At 54

Little Fires Everywhere director Lynn Shelton has died. She was 54.

According to E! News, the beloved filmmaker died from a rare blood disorder on Friday (May 15). "Lynn indeed had an infectious laugh, was full of life and had an espirit de corps that touched many. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, the entertainment industry and her fans,” her publicist Adam Kersh told the outlet.

During her career, the Ohio native is best known for award-winning films like Your Sister’s Sister, Humpday, and also as the helmer behind several TV shows, including New Girl, Mad Men, The Mindy Project, and G.L.O.W.

Marc Maron was among the first to break his silence on Shelton’s death. "I have some awful news. Lynn passed away last night," Maron told IndieWire. "She collapsed yesterday morning after having been ill for a week. There was a previously unknown, underlying condition. It was not COVID-19. The doctors could not save her. They tried. Hard."

"It's devastating," he continued. "I am leveled, heartbroken and in complete shock and don't really know how to move forward in this moment. I needed you all to know. I don't know some of you. Some I do. I'm just trying to let people who were important to her know."

Reese Witherspoon, who played a starring role in Little Fires Everywhere, also paid tribute to Shelton.

“I’m so devastated to hear about Lynn Shelton’s passing yesterday. I’m in complete shock that this vibrant, talented, and soulful filmmaker is no longer with us. Lynn was so passionate about our show, Little Fires Everywhere,” Witherspoon wrote. “Her spirit touched so many people in the filmmaking world. Her memory lives on in our vivid days together on set and in her wonderful films. Please watch her work and see her talent for yourself. #RestInPeaceLynn đŸ™đŸ»đŸ’«đŸ’œâ€

Shelton is survived by ex-husband, Kevin Seal; their son, Milo Seal; and boyfriend Maron.
