Remembering Dean Daughtry of Atlanta Rhythm Section

Atlanta Rhythm Section founding member and keyboardist Dean Daughtry passed away last week at the age of 76.

Daughtry, whose nickname was “Ox” learned the music business in his home state of Alabama. He was a member of Roy Orbison’s backup group The Candymen. He later moved on to the Classics IV in the 60’s.They hit with songs like “Stormy” and “Traces.” 

He met James B. Cobb Jr. and the two of them would go on to form Atlanta Rhythm Section.They it big with a southern rock sound in the 70’s with their remake of the Classics IV hit “Spooky,” “Imaginary Lover,” and “So Into You.”
