Mulan Shows Her Warrior Spirit In First Live Action Adaptation Trailer

It's been almost a year since Disney revealed it was working on a live-action adaptation of the 1998 animated film Mulan, and on Sunday (July 7), the world finally got to see the first trailer.

"When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father," the YouTube description reads. "Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father."

During the teaser trailer, we see Mulan transform into a warrior, juxtaposing her mother's monologue about the characteristics that make a good wife. "It is my duty to fight," the heroine declares in the clip.

Mulan is played by Chinese actress Yifei Liu, and Jet Li portrays the emperor. The two also starred alongside each other in 2008's The Forbidden Kingdom. The cast also includes Donnie Yen as Commander Tung; Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan; Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, and Gong Li as Xianniang.

Mulan is set to hit theaters on March 27, 2020. Watch the trailer below.
