Kim Kardashian Teaches Alice Marie Johnson Snapchat, Talks Prison Release

Two weeks ago, Kim Kardashian visited Donald Trump at the White House to request a pardon for Alice Marie Johnson, the 63-year-old great-grandmother who was previously serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense since 1996. Thankfully, Kardashian's meeting was a major success and Johnson was released from prison last week.

"I think that he really spent the time to listen to our case that we were making for Alice," Kardashian told Mic about her meeting with Trump. "He really understood, and I am very hopeful that this will turn out really positively."

On Wednesday (June 13), Kardashian and Johnson finally met for the first time. Their meeting was for an exclusive interview for the Today show, which aired on Thursday (June 14) morning. But, before the conversation, the two had some fun when Kardashian introduced Johnson to Snapchat. Since Johnson was in prison since 1996 and Snapchat was created in 2011, the 63-year-old has no experience with social media.

“Alice has never used filters before, so I’m showing her the ropes. Love you, Alice!” Kardashian said in a Snapchat video with Johnson, as they tried out different fun filters. Check out the clips below.

“It became this mission that I just didn’t want to give up,” Kardashian later said in her joint interview with Johnson and Today's Hoda Kotb. “I think to some people it might seem like, 'Okay, Kim made a phone call to the president.' We had been in talks and working on this for seven months.”

Johnson went on to say that she had no idea who Kardashian was when the reality TV star started speaking out about her case and helping her. “As soon as I found out who she was, I started getting every magazine that I could,” she said.

“Thank you is not big enough,” Johnson added. “I think I have to walk my thank you out. I have to live it out, for her, for my family, for the supporters.”

Kardashian closed, “I hope maybe this inspires more people to talk to the people in power — that you can have an effect over them for the greater good of other people.”
