Dubstep DJ Cookie Monsta Dead At 31

DJ Cookie Monsta has died. He was 31.

The Nottingham-born dubstep star, whose real name was Tony Cook, recently passed away, according to statements his record label, Circus Records, made on Friday (October 2).

"Our beloved Tony Cook (aka Cookie Monsta) has left us. We are devastated, no words can contain our feelings on such a day," the statement starts. "All of our thoughts go to Tony's family, friends and our heart especially goes out to Tony's son Olly, the Mini Monsta. The world will miss you Cookie, we will miss you brother. Out of respect for Tony's family, we will hold off on commenting any further until deemed appropriate."

A cause of death has not been revealed at this time.

In May 2019, Cookie Monsta, best known for hits like “Blurgh” and “Ruff,” told fans via social media that he was “struggling with mental health issues,” which prompted him to cancel his tour at the time.

“For the past year I’ve been struggling with mental health issues, over the recent weeks and months this has become harder than ever," he wrote on Facebook. “I’ve not been online recently as I’ve been trying to work through my problems away from the glare of social media,” he continued. “Unfortunately I’ve not made as much progress as I’d hoped, so I’ve decided that I need to take a longer break from the scene.”

In an update shared months later, in August 2019, Cookie Monsta expressed that he was “in a better place” and was excited to start making music again. Social media posts earlier this year appeared to show much of the same, as he'd performed a sold-out concert at Hollywood Palladium back in March.

Before his passing, Cookie Monsta's last Instagram post, dated August 21, saw him celebrating a new remix project.
