Listen To An Alternate Version Of Van Halen's "Runnin' With The Devil"

A never-before-released version of Van Halen's 1978 classic "Runnin' With the Devil," features a different vocal take by David Lee Roth and a longer guitar solo from Eddie Van Halen.

The user who uploaded the song to YouTube on Monday claims the track comes from tapes from the 1977 sessions for the album. Van Halen News Desk points out that an alternate version of "Dance the Night Away" that appeared three years ago came from the same user, Groovefunkel Second Helping.

In a description, the user referred to the alternate version as a "remix" that was "made from the original 24-track session masters."

The track begins with Roth bantering with an engineer from the vocal booth. As soon as Michael Anthony's bass starts thumping away, Roth can be heard asking, "Is this another take?"

Van Halen's debut was one of the biggest in rock history at the time. It peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard album chart and was certified diamond status by the RIAA in 1996.

"Runnin' With the Devil" was the second single from the album, released after the band's cover of The Kinks' "You Really Got Me" marked its breakthrough.

Roth's Las Vegas residency kicks off Wednesday, January 8, in the first step in a relaunch of the singer's solo career.

The Van Halen legend is also booked for some festivals this summer and has tour dates with KISS on his 2020 itinerary.

Roth told VH News Desk in September that his band will be playing music from Van Halen and his solo albums with a few surprises. He emphasized that his new band is attempting to reproduce some of his most famous studio recordings and "bring it the way a record brings it," with multiple guitars and background vocalists.

"It's a big rock sound," he said. "It's not [1985's Just A Gigolo]. It's not a brass band. That was a quickie vacation. And this is not a tribute band. I wrote these songs. I structured these songs. And we bring the respect and dignity to what we are doing the same way that the Lincoln Center brings to the Beethoven Festival with the latest Philharmonic. It's a new orchestra, and a whole new sound."
