Cardi B has apologized to Martin Luther King Jr.'s youngest child, Dr. Bernice King, after portraying her mother, Coretta Scott King, in what the Internet has deemed an "inappropriate" skit.

On Tuesday (August 28), a sketch comedy video called "Real Housewives of the Civil Rights Movement," where Cardi played MLK Jr.'s wife, hit the Internet (first published on TMZ). The video, which is from Off the Rip, a new series from Wild ā€™N Out star Rip Micheals, features the "Bodak Yellow" rapper alongside civil rights leaders, including Rosa Parks, Malcolm Xā€™s wife Betty Shabazz, and Jesse Jacksonā€™s wife Jacqueline Lavinia Brown.

In the skit, which jokes about MLK Jr.'s alleged affairs, Cardi says in character, ā€œI think I should be the leader of this group. You know, my husband has marched in every state and has fought so we can use the same toilet as everyone.ā€ Betty then interjects, ā€œWell your husband is a ho." The video then transitions to Cardi's confessional, where she says, ā€œAll these hussies wanna sleep with my husband. But itā€™s all right, ā€˜cause I know he marches home to me.ā€

The sketch immediately sparked outrage, with Bernice being one of the first to react. She called Cardi's portrayal of her mother, "repulsive," "false" and badly timed given that Tuesday is the 55th anniversary of her father's March on Washington where he famously delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech, TMZ reported.

Clearly, her words struck a nerve. Only hours later, Bernice tweeted that Cardi had contacted her to apologize. "Thank you, @iamcardib, for reaching out to me and apologizing for the skit that aired on @TMZ," she wrote. "I look forward to talking with you soon."

Earlier this month, Rip spoke to Page Six about Cardi's involvement with his now-controversial show. ā€œYouā€™re going to see Cardi B in a whole new light,ā€ he said. ā€œSheā€™s doing crazy sketches, like she has this thing called ā€˜Ho Etiquetteā€™ where she does this character where she tells how do women to handle their inner ho and how to do a relationship.ā€
