Hear Eric Church's New Storytelling Ballad, 'Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones'

Eric Church has given fans yet another glimpse at his upcoming triple album, Heart & Soul with the release of a new song, "Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones."

Church says the ballad, written by Casey Beathard, "was such a tough one for us to get, but it ended up as one of my favorite performances of my career." The track tells the story of a musically-gifted biracial teenage boy who wonders about his father's identity. While his mother refuses to talk about it, the boy seems to think his natural ability for playing guitar came from his dad. Throughout the song clues are shared, eventually giving away who the father is.

"Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones / Hailed from Gadsden, Alabama / Born to carry on / Who his mama was a fan of / Don’t ask me no questions / And I won’t tell you no lies / That’s what she always told him / Right up till the day she died," Church sings in the chorus.

"Lynyrd Skynyrd Jones" is the final track on Soul, which is the third disc from Church's upcoming three-part project Heart & Soul. The triple album, featuring 24 songs altogether, will be released in three phases starting with Heart, due out on April 16, & arriving on April 20, and Soul on April 23.

Fans can pre-order Heart & Soul now, with white vinyl versions of all three albums available exclusively to fan club members. Heart & Soul is Church's first new album since 2018's Desperate Man. The complete tracklist for each record can be seen below.
