Netflix Cancels 'The OA' After 2 Seasons

Premiere Of Netflix's "The OA" - Arrivals

This is such a bummer. Netflix just announced The OA has been cancelled after just two seasons on the streaming platform. Fans were shocked to learn the sci-fi drama would not be returning for another season as the season finale ended on a jaw dropping cliff hanger. Though Netflix doesn't disclose viewership data, The OA often received favorable reviews from critics.

“We are incredibly proud of the 16 mesmerizing chapters of The OA, and are grateful to Brit [Marling] and Zal [Batmanglij] for sharing their audacious vision and for realizing it through their incredible artistry,” Netflix head of originals Cindy Holland said in a statement. “We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions.”

The cancellation is especially disappointing for fans of the show because Marling revealed she had answers for all the show's mystifying questions after season one premiered. "From the very beginning when we were on our own daydreaming a story, we definitely thought how can we construct something that, many seasons out, has a satisfying end? So there is an end and there is an answer to every riddle and nothing is done to just be sound and fury going nowhere," Marling told The Hollywood Reporter. "It all goes somewhere. And as to whether or not we get to tell that, I certainly hope that we do. There is a place that season two already begins in our minds and a place in which it ends."

Fans took to social media to share their disappointment with the cancelation, calling The OA one of the most 'unique' shows currently airing on television.

The OA is the most recent in a string of cancelations in Netflix's original programming. Other recent cancelations include Tuca & Bertie, Santa Clarita Diet, She's Gotta Have It, Designated Survivor and Chambers.
