Nurse Working Frontlines Of COVID-19 Crisis Wins 'Wheel Of Fortune' Jackpot

Wheel of Fortune understands the importance of paying tribute to the frontline workers battling against the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Thursday (April 23), the long-running game show aired an old episode featuring an ER nurse Arzo Mehdavi, who has been working to treat COVID-19 hospital patients in Hayward, California. The episode, which was taped prior to the coronavirus lockdown, sees Mehdavi score the jackpot and win $56,000 in prizes and cash in the final moments of the show.

While the episode was a re-broadcast, producers made the airing special by having co-host Vanna White pay Arzo and her family a virtual visit on Zoom as they watched the episode. "If I can bring her any kind of joy for all the hard work and dedication she has given to so many, I would do it a thousand times," White, 63, told PEOPLE. "It’s just overwhelming what they are doing, so it makes me feel so good to give back just a touch. It’s nothing for what they do for us."

Meanwhile, Mehdavi said that being on the show has been "a happy memory" for the nurse. "Waiting for the show to air has given me something fun to look forward to," she added.
