It's tough to see TV shows get cancelled prematurely. Due to the ongoing pandemic, a bunch of TV shows—both old and new—have been axed following months of halted productions. From Glow's final season to two promising series that never made it out of pre-production, here's what you won't be seeing on TV again next year.
Drunk History
The popular Comedy Central series, which hilariously re-enacts famous events in history as told by inebriated storytellers, began production on its seventh season ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, production came to a halt as a result of the shut downs. After months of halted production, the show was ultimately canceled in August.
Stumptown
After a successful first season, Stumptown was renewed for a second season back in May. Despite its star-studded cast, which includes Cobie Smolders and Jake Johnson, ABC cancelled its plans for a second season due to the ongoing pandemic.
The Society
Netflix reversed its decision to renew this YA drama for a second season after COVID-19 indefinitely halted production. The Society was originally renewed for a sophomore season back in 2019 and it was expected to premiere in late 2020.
I Am Not Okay With This
Though Netflix never officially announced that I Am Not Okay With This was picked up for a second season, Deadline reports the streaming service had "quietly picked up" a sophomore turn for the drama series. According to their source, "scripts were written, and it was fully on track to go into production" before the pandemic. Netflix announced there would be no follow up in August.
On Becoming a God in Central Florida
Despite receiving critical acclaim, especially for Kirsten Dunst's starring role, Showtime announced it had reversed its decision to renew the show for a second season.
Glow
Glow was set to return to Netflix fo a fourth and final season, however, following delays due to the pandemic the show will end after season three.
I'm Sorry
Like so many other shows this year, truTV originally decided to renew I'm Sorry for a third season. After being unable to resume filming, however, I'm Sorry was ultimately cancelled.
The President is Missing
Based on the novel of the same name written by former president Bill Clinton and James Patterson, Showtime cancelled plans to adapt the political thriller into a drama series. Before the pandemic, David Oyelowo was attached to star.
Americanah
HBO Max dropped plans to adapt Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel following COVID-19-related production delays. The script was written by Danai Gurira and was set to star her Black Panther co-star Lupita Nyong'o. Due to scheduling conflicts caused by the production delays, Nyong'o was forced to drop out of the project. HBO Max dropped the project shortly after.
