KFC Is Testing Out A New Crispy Chicken Sandwich

If you're looking for some good news, keep reading—KFC just announced they're testing out a brand new fried chicken sandwich and it sounds delicious. The only downside is that KFC's newest menu item is only being tested at locations in Orlando, Florida for the time being. If customers in Orlando like the new sandwich, however, you may be seeing it on the menu at your local KFC in the near future. Here's everything you need to know.

KFC cuts right to the point with the name of their latest offering: the KFC Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich consists of an extra crispy chicken filet placed on a buttered brioche bun and topped with pickles and spicy or classic mayonnaise. The sandwich itself will set you back $3.99, while a combination meal with fries and a medium drink costs $6.99.

KFC fans may be wondering why the fast casual food chain is rolling out a new crispy chicken sandwich when they debuted the Crispy Colonel back in 2018. The Crispy Colonel is also a crispy chicken sandwich, however, KFC didn't think it was good enough to compete with Popeyes, Chick-fil-A and McDonald's.

According to Andrea Zahumensky, KFC's chief marketing officer, the new version "boasts an upgrade of every single component," including a 20% larger chicken filet, thicker pickles and a new type of bun."We launched into this process that we believe now is going to be able to compete," Zahumensky told CNN Business. "The 'Crispy Colonel' has a lot of fans, but we knew we could do better and it wasn't good enough for us."

The test run will conclude in Orlando on June 21. After that, we may be seeing this updated crispy chicken sandwiches at KFC locations across the country.
