'Lion King' Director Shares Behind-The-Scenes Photo With Donald Glover

The first official look at the upcoming live-action remake of the iconic Disney film The Lion King is finally here. No, sorry, it's not Beyoncé as Nala.

But in a photograph posted to his official Twitter, director Jon Favreau posed with star Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino) who will be voicing the role of adult Simba when the film hits theaters in Summer 2019.

In the photograph we find Favreau, who also directed Disney’s live-action remake of The Jungle Book, smiling and standing beside Glover with a caption that reads “Simba returns!” Though not much else is revealed in the picture it does indicate that production on the film has begun and more updates should arrive in the coming months.

Last month Disney revealed the entire star-studded cast of the film which also includes James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Kani as Rafiki and John Oliver as Zazu, among others.

Glover, who was recently nominated for five Grammy Awards at the 2018 ceremony, has had a very successful year between his music, hit television show Atlanta and various movie roles. Closing off 2017 with this behind-the-scenes look of him and Favreau is a treat for all Disney fans alike.

Disney's The Lion King is set to be released on July 19th, 2019.
