New Music Report: Expert Picks - Week of September 18th

Expert Picks

There has been a lot of great new music released over the last few weeks. You can find out what was released this weekend in our New Music Report, but take a look at what we've been listening to lately. Our editors Nicole, James, and Isha have shared some of their Expert Picks for the week. Check it out below.

Nicole's Picks:

Lorde featuring Khalid, SZA & Post Malone - "Dynamite (Remix)"

Just when you thought Lorde's new music couldn't get any better, she goes and releases this gem. For her "Homemade Dynamite" remix, Lorde teamed up with three of the most buzzed about artists in the game right now: Khalid, SZA, and Post Malone. All four each trade verses throughout the song, adding a new dimension to the Melodrama original. Lorde is set to perform during this week's iHeartRadio Music Festival, where Khalid will also appear as a special guest.

Galantis featuring Poo Bear - "Salvage (Up All Night)"

Galantis released their brand new album The Aviary this week, and among the 12 new songs is this little gem called "Salvage (Up All Night)." For this track, the duo teamed up with Justin Bieber collaborator Poo Bear (who also recently teamed up with Skrillex this summer), and it is a light, feel-good anthem for the dance floor with a catchy medley and undeniably fun beat. HERE. FOR. THIS.

James' Picks:

SNBRN & Strange Club - "Melrose"

Summer might be days away from wrapping up, but it doesn't sound like SNBRN and Strange Club are looking for the scorching nights to end. For the team-up, the acts unite for a sizzling deep house track, which is just about picking up females on Melrose Avenue. It's nothing more. It's nothing less. And yet, it's as direct as they come. Plus, who doesn't love a line like: "No GMOs, real hoes"?

Michael Mott - "Single City" featuring Loren Allred

Need a new ballad for your new playlist? Look no further than "Single City," a tender piano ballad off Michael Mott's sophomore effort, Abandoned Heart, which features The Voice alum Loren Allred in all her glory. Clocking in at almost four minutes, the track feels sad, nostalgic and yet oddly comforting, at least for this this editor, who moved to New York City in his mid-twenties. Expect a variation of other pop/soul collaborations on Mott's set, including collaborations from Glee's Jenna Ushkowitz, America's Got Talentā€™s Brian Justin Crum and more.

Isha's Picks:

Gucci Mane featuring The Weeknd - "Curve"

Gucci Mane linked up with The Weeknd to give us "Curve." It's only right that Gucci and Weeknd joined forces for this new track because the ATL rapper has also joined the second leg of Weeknd's Legend of the Fall tour, which recently kicked off. Weeknd's laid back first verse goes: "The kid back on the whiskey/ Virginia Black got me tipsy/ I'm in L.A. like I'm Nipsey/ Spanish girls wanna kiss me/ A n**ga wanna come and diss me/ And put a hex like a gypsy."

Gucci later comes in: "I'm in Dubai/ Somebody tell the prince that the kingpin has arrived/ If I lived over here, I'd prolly have one hundred wives (well damn)/ Walkin' in the club and they like, 'Gucci just arrived' (Gucci!)/ I ordered up a dub and then I threw it in the sky/ I told her I'm aight, now she look like she surprised (I'm iight)/ She look like a model, but a devil in disguise."

Toni Braxton - "Deadwood"

Toni Braxton is back like she's never left with a new, sultry single called "Deadwood." "Deadwood" is the R&B queen's first single from her upcoming 8th studio album, Sex & Cigarettes. The new project is set to drop in January 2018 via Def Jam Recordings. "Iā€™m excited to be doing what I love doing," the star recently told The Insider. "The new album comes out at the top of the year and itā€™s called Sex & Cigarettes. I feel like Iā€™m older, I want to say what I feel, I donā€™t want to be censored."

According to a press release, "'Deadwood' was co-written by Braxton, Fred Ball, Royce Doherty and Kwame Ogoo. Fred Ball produced the single and Braxton and Paul Boutin co-produced the vocals. The video for 'Deadwood' was directed by Bille Woodruff in Los Angeles." We'll be seeing a whole other side of Braxton on her album, too. Sex & Cigarettes will be the chanteuse's first album in her 25-year career with a parental advisory on the cover.
