Meghan Markle Used To Have A Cat Named Archie

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry surprised everybody when they announced their son would be called Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The odds were so low on that moniker being picked that one gambler took home $23,000 for betting on it. Well, it turns out Meghan may have long been a fan of her son's name. One of her friends told the sun she used to have a cat named Archie back in the day.

"Doria [Meghan's mom] rescued Archie and he became an important part of the household," a friend of Meghan told The Sun. "Meghan loved playing with him and she was always talking about him to her friends. It’s no surprise she named her new baby Archie. She loved that cat."

Meghan's childhood pet is believed to have passed away some time during Meghan's college years. While the cat may have played a role in Meghan's decision to name her son Archie, her friend said there's one other reason Meghan loves that name. The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly a big fan of the vintage Archie comics. "She would spend her weekends going to vintage stores to buy the comics. This could be a little nod to her dad," the friend explained. "He would drive her around and also surprise her with vintage volumes. She had at least 100. This may be a way to reach out to her dad, even after all that’s happened."

Another theory floating around is that Meghan and Harry were inspired by the nickname Prince George gave himself. Back in January, the 5-year-old prince told a passerby he goes by Archie instead of George.

Whatever the inspiration, though, Archie is the perfect name for the newest royal baby. Fingers crossed Meghan and Harry release a family photo to commemorate their one year anniversary next week!
