Watch Common Call Out NRA With Andra Day During Oscars Performance

Andra Day and Common took the theme and message of their Marshall nominated "Stand Up For Something" to the next level with a simple (but powerful) rendition of the collab during the 90th annual Academy Awards on Sunday night (March 4).

During the poignant set, Andra Day and Common offered the crowd with their push for acceptance throughout the entire number, but it hit particularly hard when the rapper made a reference to the Parkland shooting in Florida and called out the NRA. "On Oscar night, this is the dream. We tell a land where dreamers live and freedom dwells, immigrants, get the benefits. We put up monuments for the feminists, tell the NRA they in God's way," Common told the audience at the Dolby Theater.

With both of the performers dressed in black, they also made it a point to shed light on the bigger stars of the performance: the 10 powerful activists backing them up. Among the individuals on stage included Alice Brown Otter, Bana Alabed, Bryan Stevenson, Cecile Richards, Dolores Huerta, Janet Mock, Josรฉ Andrรฉs, Nicole Hockley, Patrisse Cullors and Tarana Burke. Marshall hit theaters back in 2017 and follows the story of Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice.
