New Music Report: Expert Picks - Week of October 30th

FPM

There has been a lot of great new music released over the last few weeks. You can find out what was released this weekend in our New Music Report, but take a look at what we've been listening to lately. Our editors Nicole, James, and Isha have shared some of their Expert Picks for the week. Check it out below.

Nicole's Picks:

Walk The Moon - "Surrender"

YES, Walk The Moon, keep that new music coming. "Surrender" is the latest offering from the band's upcoming What If Nothing album, which follows their single "One Foot," as well as a song called "Headphones." In "Surrender," co-produced by Captain Cuts, immediately off the bat we are hit with a Robyn-esque bassline, as piano riffs kick in along with WTM's Nick Petricca's vocals, leading into a chorus where Nick is .. well .. surrendering to an ex. "This is the moment I surrender," he sings.

Well, I surrender to this song.

Don Diablo featuring A R I Z O N A - "Take Her Place"

What a gorgeous collaboration. Don Diablo and A R I Z O N A have teamed up for a new song called "Take Her Place," fusing together dance and indie in a beautiful way, taking the sound of the electro-pop band and kicking it up a notch with Don Diablo's production. The track itself is about trying to get over an ex with someone else. A R I Z O N A's Zach Hannah singin in the chorus, "You can take her place tonight/I need somebody in the morning/Somebody to hold me tight/You don't even have to mean it."

In a statement to Billboard, Don Diablo explained that "Take Her Place" is the second single from his upcoming album, and if more tracks like this are what we have to look forward to, then I can't wait to hear the rest.

James' Picks:

BLVK JVCK - "Mind Games” featuring Dyo (Nora En Pure Remix)

Nora En Pure does it again by adding her free flowing spin to BLVK JVCK's Dyo-assisted “Mind Games.” It’s a deep dance-heavy four minutes that brings you into a murky dark club with just enough light to see the person besides you. “Mind Games” has also been remixed by the likes of Boehm, Bad One & Valleyz and Solardo, but there’s something about Nora’s four-minute mix that elevates this song.

Emily Kinney - "Mermaid Song"

You may recognize her as Beth from The Walking Dead, but Emily Kinney is marching forward with her music career as an indie pop singer. Just last week, the multi-talent dropped her latest offering called “Mermaid Song,” which hears her giving a lover a warning that his interpretation of her isn’t all what it seems. "I wrote 'Mermaid Song' after finally leaving behind a relationship where I never felt like I could fully be myself," Kinney tells Billboard. "'Mermaid Song' speaks to a need to be heard and seen and loved authentically. Ben Greenspan produced the song and helped me find cool sounds that made me think of ocean water."

Isha's Picks:

The Game featuring Jeremih, Young Thug & Sevyn - "Oh I"

YASSS!!! Game sampled Foxy Brown’s single “Get You Home” track featuring Blackstreet for his new song “Oh I” and it gives us ALL THE FEELS. From the minute that you hear the beat drop, all hip hop and R&B lovers will immediately smile and get their bodies ready for the hit. Game recruited Jeremih, Sevyn Streeter and Young Thug to assist with “Oh I.” Jeremih takes inspiration from Blackstreet’s chorus, while Sevyn adds sweet harmonies that are inspired by Soul for Real’s “Every Little Thing I Do.”

Thugga rap/sings “You mad, texting in all caps/ Like I just didn’t put my kids on your back.” He continues: “I got drunk off your love and throwed up / Poured my heart inside your double cup.” Yes, Game. Yes, yes, yes to this song!

Chris Brown – "Everybody Knows"

This past week, Chris Brown dropped three songs that will be featured on his upcoming Heartbreak On A Full Moon album. The project is being released on Halloween and based on the way that the singles from it sound and the title, it’s all about love lost. One of the songs that Brown released a few days ago is “Everybody Knows.” It was produced by Paul Cabbin and Tariq Beatz.

On the song, Brown sings: “You ain't used to know about nothing (oh no)/ You were just a girl from the subs (subs)/ You was with the three plate threeway (three)/ How you 'posed to know 'bout love? (Love).” He adds in the chorus: Everybody knows about you/ Everybody knows about you/ Everybody knows about you/ And they shouldn't f**king know about you.”
