Nick McGlashan, 'Deadliest Catch' Star, Dead At 33: Report

Former 'Deadliest Catch' star Nick McGlashan has reportedly died at the age of 33.

McGlashan's family and the Davidson County Medical Examiner both confirmed the veteran fisherman and crabber died in Nashville on Sunday (December 27) to TMZ. Local authorities have not released confirmation on the cause of his death as of Monday (December 28) morning.

McGlashan appeared in 78 episodes of the Discovery Channel show 'Deadliest Catch' between 2013-2020, which features crab fishermen risking their lives to haul in large catches during the Alaskan king crab and snow crab fishing seasons. Discovery Channel's online biography of McGlashan described him as "a 7th generation fisherman who was raised not far from Dutch Harbor on the nearby island of Akutan, Alaska."

"Nick is known for his witty quips, working through the pain, and not stopping the job until it's done," the biography states. "He has also kept the boat running through all kinds of mechanical issues, manufacturing quick fixes on the fly."

McGlashan began crabbing at the age of 13 on the first boat of his father, Bruce, known as the "F/V Westling," on the Bering Sea. He began working for his father's friend, 'Deadliest Catch' star Captain 'Wild' Bill Wichrowski, in 2011 and headed the crew when Wichrowski ran the "Cape Caution" and the "Summer Bay."

McGlashan had a history of alcohol and drug use, which led to him being kicked off the boat in Season 13 of 'Deadliest Catch' before he was admitted to rehab, according to his Discovery Channel biography.

McGlashan is the second 'Deadliest Catch' star to have died in 2020. In August, deckhand Mahlon Reyes suffered a heart attack, TMZ reports.

Former captain Blake Painter also died in August 2018, TMZ reports.
