Illinois Teen Pleads Not Guilty To All Charges In Kenosha Protest Shooting

Protests in Wisconsin aftermath of Kenosha shooting

Kyle Rittenhouse pleaded not guilty to all seven charges against him and remains free on a $2 million bail. The 18-year-old is accused of killing two people, Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum, and wounding a third, Gaige Grosskreutz, during a protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, following the police-involved shooting of Jacob Blake. Rittenhouse was 17 at the time.

The Illinois teen was charged with first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, attempted first-degree intentional reckless homicide, two felony counts of recklessly endangering safety, a misdemeanor count of possession of a weapon by a minor, and failure to comply with an emergency management order of state or local government.

The trial is scheduled to start on March 29, but Rittenhouse's lawyers are expected to ask for a delay to prepare their case. Rittenhouse claims he was acting in self-defense when he opened fire with a Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Rifle that was given to him by a friend.

Kenosha is on edge after Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Gravely decided not to charge the officers involved in Blake's shooting. Before Gravely announced his decision, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers deployed 500 National Guard troops to the city.
