A new stimulus bill proposed by two House Democrats would provide all Americans with $2,000, and then an additional $1,000 every month for up to one year after the coronavirus pandemic has ended. The Automatic BOOST to Communities (ABC) Act proposal was introduced by Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Pramila Jayapal and would provide every American with a BOOST debit card preloaded with $2,000.
By sending out debit cards, it would ensure that everybody living in America, including people who do not have bank accounts or social security numbers, non-citizens, and dependents, would receive the stimulus funds. The money can be withdrawn from an ATM, and the card can be used at any store that accepts credit or debit cards.
The cards would be mailed out to most Americans, but those who do not have a permanent address would be able to pick them up in person from any FDIC-insured bank or credit union. The bill also calls for an Emergency Responder Corps to deliver the debit cards to the elderly and other at-risk individuals. The delivery would also serve as a welfare check on those people.
