Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Want To Extend 'Megxit' For 12 More Months

Back in the beginning of 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world when they announced their plans to step down from their official roles within the Royal Family. Queen Elizabeth granted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex a one year trial period to test out life beyond their royal duties.

As 2020 comes to an end, the trial period is not far behind. According to a new report from The Sun, Harry and Meghan plan to ask for an extension to their trial period. The pair will reportedly discuss this option via video call in the coming months before Prince Harry heads over to the U.K. to talk about it with his grandmother in person.

Though the 'Sandringham Summit,' which took place back in January and was attended by Her Majesty, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry, was believed to be quite tense, talks surrounding the Sussexes' future are reportedly much calmer now. During their next meeting on the subject, Harry and Meghan will make a bid to maintain their royal patronages as they continue with their own independent careers. Royal aides are also expected to closely examine Meghan and Harry's commercial deals, including their $100 million Netflix contract, to ensure they meet “the values of Her Majesty."

Royal biographer Andrew Morton told the outlet: "Although they will do some of it by Zoom, Harry wants to meet face to face to tie it all up. Things seem to have calmed down. Harry has been in contact with the Queen more often than you would think. But certain things you need to be there in person to sort. They will need a few weeks. That could be done after April, depending on Covid.”
