Country Star Cady Groves' Friends Fear COVID-19 Caused Her Sudden Death

Cady Groves' sudden death has friends worried that the country singer's passing was due to the COVID-19 crisis.

While her brother, Cody, denied that his sibling passed away at 30 because of the respiratory illness, sources close to Page Six reveal otherwise. Groves was found dead in her bed in Nashville by her roommate on Saturday (May 2). According to the roommate, Groves had not been seen for a few days prior to the discovery. Meanwhile, the Metro Nashville authorities told the celebrity gossip outlet that there was no indication of foul play, while her reps confirmed that an initial autopsy also ruled out foul play or self-harm.

Groves' death still has her inner circle curious. Her record label "asked specifically" if police tested the star for coronavirus, but they were told a test had not been conducted on the fallen singer. More than 3,000 people have been infected in the Nashville area. "We're in the middle of a pandemic — you would have thought it was the first thing they would do," one insider close to the situation said. "Her death was just so unexpected. I think [COVID-19] was a concern for everybody."

Another source said that the singer, who previously admitted to having severe mental health problems, had suffered from "bronchial issues" and that was the reference that her sibling made when announcing her death on social media. Groves' reps said that the coroner's report is not expected for several weeks.

Nonetheless, Camus Celli, a rep for her label, Vel Records, shared some positive thoughts on the singer, saying, "Her frustrations were more along the lines of, 'Can’t we be over this — I want to get my record out and play some shows.' She was going stir-crazy like most of us — but mostly because she just wanted to get on with her exciting plans for the future."

Groves' family is requesting that donations be made in her name to the Music Health Alliance or MusiCares organizations in lieu of flowers.
