Marc Anthony announced a celebrity hurricane relief alliance called Somos Una Voice on Wednesday’s “GMA.” The new effort is a partnership with his ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, and more stars. Watch the video below.
Appearing via satellite from Miami, Anthony said, “The major announcement is the fact that we care. And what we’ve been able to accomplish in the past 72 hours is put together an alliance of artists. It’s an unprecedented list of artists that combined, we represent 1.3 billion followers. The major announcement is that we actually care and we’re doing something about it and we’re gonna do something about it. We’ve been extremely effective, even in the past 72 hours.”
Referring to the footage that was shown before Anthony was introduced, he went on, “Even hearing those stories in my ear, it breaks my heart, and this is a reality of what’s going on. So the announcement is we have formed an alliance called Somos Una Voz. Like I said, you’ll be hearing from us soon with some major announcements coming up in the next week. And if anybody’s listening, just know that we’re coming, just know that we care. I was talking to the governor earlier, and he said just tell people please to be patient, especially on this side, because the families are desperate. We’re here, ready, willing and able.”
According to the official press release for Somos Una Voz (We Are One Voice), the alliance is “working together to rush food, shelter, medicine, power and communications to those in need.” Funds will aid the American Red Cross, Reach Out Worldwide, United Way and United for Puerto Rico, “with more beneficiaries to come.” In addition to Anthony and Lopez, some of the stars who are supporting the campaign include Alex Rodriguez, Ricky Martin, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Vin Diesel, Pitbull, Paul Simon, Jada Pinkett Smith, Luis Fonsi, Lin-Manuel Miranda and John Leguizamo.
