A 'High School Musical' Fan Noticed A Major Error During 'Breaking Free'

In a recent TikTok video, a High School Musical fan noticed a major error in the film's big finale. Beware before scrolling down—once it's pointed out to you, you won't be able to watch this scene the same way again.

While watching High School Musical, TikTok user senpaisaysimmain pointed the mistake out to her followers in a quick video. While Troy and Gabriella are on stage for their big audition, Gabriella freezes up and doesn't start singing 'Breaking Free' on the music cue. Troy hurries over to Gabriella to give her a pep talk and help calm his duet partner's nerves. When the song picks up again, however, Troy is the one who sings the opening line.

WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAG

At first watch this might seem like Troy is singing the first line to help Gabriella move past her stage fright. Earlier in the movie, however, there's a scene showing Troy and Gabriella rehearsing 'Breaking Free.' Even in rehearsals, Troy sings the first line. Some viewers may interpret this scene as Troy failing to sing his opening line because he can tell how nervous Gabriella is, but others—like the TikTok user who initially pointed this mishap out—are taking it as a consistency error.
