'Game of Thrones' Actress Diana Rigg Dies at 82

Actress Diana Rigg has passed away at 82 years old following a battle with cancer.

In a statement to EW, Rigg's agent Simon Beresford said, "It is with tremendous sadness that we announce that Dame Diana Rigg died peacefully early this morning. She was at home with her family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time. Dame Diana was an icon of theatre, film, and television. She was the recipient of BAFTA, Emmy, Tony and Evening Standard Awards for her work on stage and screen. Dame Diana was a much loved and admired member of her profession, a force of nature who loved her work and her fellow actors. She will be greatly missed."

EW also reports that the actress' daughter, Rachel Stirling, revealed that her mother was diagnosed with cancer back in March, and "spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession. I will miss her beyond words."

The UK actress has appeared in a long list of films and TV series, and very notably in Game of Thrones as Olenna Tyrell. She told EW last year of her character, "I loved the complexity of Olenna. She was a political woman, and she played the game brilliantly. Anything and everything executed ruthlessly for the survival of her family, which is historical in a way, like the Borgias and various other famous families."

Diana also played Emma Peel in The Avengers TV series in the mid 60s, the wife of James Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service as Countess Teresa di Vicenzo and more.

Diana has been honored with many awards and nominations over the course of her career scoring Emmy and Tony Awards, along with a Golden Globe nomination and BAFTA TV Award.
