Bonnie Pointer of The Pointer Sisters passes away; she was 69

Bonnie Pointer, one of the original members of The Pointer Sister quartet, passed away this morning (June 8th, 2020) at age 69.

Pointer and her sisters, some of whom have shifted in and out of the group since its founding, created a lot of hits in the 1970s and 1980s. Bonnie herself was one of the original members of The Pointer Sisters but left in the mid-1970s to pursue a solo career, which is also quite successful. Her 1979 disco version of "Heaven Must Have Sent You" hit #11 on the Billboard pop chart.

As one of the Pointer Sisters, Bonnie won a Grammy award for Best Vocal by a Duo or Group in the country category. Yes, the country category. Their first hit song was a country crossover song called "Fairytale." Check it out, below, along with Bonnie's biggest solo hit.

RIP, Bonnie.
