Meek Mill and Dream Chasers have teamed up with Puma, online sportswear retailer Fanatics, and luxury streetwear brand Milano Di Rouge to donate more than 6,000 backpacks to students in Philadelphia. Through the "We Ball" rapper's initiative, Meek and Dream Chasers will be giving backpacks to low-income students from pre-K to 12th grade in Meek's hometown of Philly.

ā€œGrowing up in Philly, Iā€™ve watched families struggle to make ends meet and buy basic school supplies for their kids,ā€ Meek said in a press release. ā€œThose memories stay with me and thatā€™s why Iā€™m committed to giving back to families in my hometown, putting smiles on kidsā€™ faces and helping them start the school year on the right note with the right supplies.ā€

Meek has already visited two of the 12 schools he is working with in the city, to personally deliver backpacks and supplies to students. One school visit was especially special to the rapper as it was his alma mater, James G. Blaine Elementary School.

ā€œWe are excited that so many of our students will have brand new backpacks and school supplies for this school year, and are grateful to Meek Mill and the Dream Chasers for giving back to the community,ā€ The School District of Philadelphia Superintendent Dr. William R. Hite said in a press release. ā€œThis visit is something our students wonā€™t soon forget and is a wonderful way to kick off the new school year.ā€

Meek has made it his mission to focus on the betterment of his community since he was released from prison four months ago, following what many called an unjust sentencing for violating his parole.

"I want to change the world, make a lot of money, feed my family, and change the way my bloodline was raised," he recently told The Philadelphia Inquirer. "Because my bloodline was raised in poverty. People dropping out of school. Nobody really going to college. Nobody owning their house. I want to change that. Because that's not what life is all about, and I've seen the other side of that."
