8-Year-Old Texas Boy Wins First Place In National Mullet Championship

Texas 8-year-old Jaxson Crossland is rocking a serious mullet that has really paid off.

The third grader from the Hunt County city of Celeste recently won first place for best mullet in the kids category at the USA Mullet Championships. He took home a prize of $500.

Jaxson's mom, Zoie Shepard, told CNN, "Jax has been just ecstatic since winning. It's been so great to be able to enter him into something that celebrates what makes him different. It's been so awesome for Jax. people recognize him everywhere now."

Children from all over the nation submitted photos of their mullets. The submission received more than 20,000 votes and 50,000 reactions on social media.

Jaxson was crowned the winner on October 27th.

The USA Mullet Championship president Kevin Begola stated, "The contest has blown up with over 20,000 votes from all over the country. During these tough times it's important to have fun. This is exactly what 2020 needed!"

Jaxson used his prize money to buy boxing gear and take boxing classes. He "enjoyed every second of it," said Shepard.

When Jaxson was asked about how he feels about winning, he said, "I can't give autographs right now, cause I don't know cursive."
