Charli XCX Lets Her Guard Down On Open-Hearted Song 'I Finally Understand'

Charli XCX is letting her walls down on her latest single.

Following the release of tracks “Forever” and “Claws,” Charli has returned with an upbeat jam called “I Finally Understand.” The record, which serves as the third single from the singer-songwriter’s quarantine album, How I’m Feeling Now, is charged with sincerity and sensitivity and finds the star pouring her heart out to her boyfriend, Huck Kwong.

“I finally understand, finally understand/ My therapist said I hate myself really bad/ You tell me it's fine, let me cry and hug it out,” Charli sings over a fierce garage and drum beat, which finds the superstar coping with vulnerable feelings while in the supportive embrace of her beloved.

Charli adds to this expression of confidence and trust in a follow-up verse: “Many nights gone, finally understand/ I finally understand, I finally understand/ Feel it in my core and the feeling's raw/ You love me even when I hate myself, I'm sure.”

As her followers know, Charli has been spending much of her time in self-isolation with Kwong, for whom she penned a heartfelt message ahead of releasing “I Finally Understand.”

"For some reason, today in particular I feel extremely lucky and [privileged] that I have found myself in a situation where I'm quarantined with him and 2 other people I care about deeply,” Charli wrote on Instagram. “It's just really hitting me today. I know this situation isn't the same for everyone and I'm so lucky and grateful.”

Charli’s new record, slated to release next Friday (May 15), follows the success of last year’s Charli.
